    Angling crossroads.

Simon I'm a Leicestershire lad, Broughton Astley now, I have similar problems. Do you fish alone or is there normally someone with you? I have good support from a couple of friends we are alone Newark members. I tend to fish from the top.of the steps and my friends net my fish. I've been...

Chris Bracey. Sad loss of BFW regular

David he contacted me for advice when they were first planning to go. We'd never met but Graham gave him my number and we were in regular contact. They booked the same Air b&b in Chooz that we use. He informed he was unable to go but was passing messages on from his friends who where there...

    Ideal spawning temperature

Hi Folks, long time no visit how is everyone. Quick question what is considered the ideal water temperature for barbel to commence spawning. Although water levels are currently very low in this neck of the woods the cold nights have kept temperatures down and the water is still very cold.

    A very sad announcement

First met Ray at the Teme fish in think he was one of only 3 to catch. Met him a few times since on the Wye. He was a lovely bloke great sense of humour and no mean angler. He'll be missed by all who knew him. RIP my friend.

    Grayling for the pot

Des is a high profile angler, it's all about publicity, even bad publicity (which I don't think this was ) is better than no publicity.

Looking to make a massive baitdropper for close in on flooded Severn

My mate used a sieve cheap from any supermarket. Attach a lid with a split ring as mentioned above line ties on the handle. Crude but effective.

    Fishing Safe

On this topic I have a pet hate of booze on the riverbank and my own personal point of view is that it should be banned. I was downstream of Newark last season when two guys pulled up for a night session, they got more Stella in the car than bait. With heavy rain forecast and the banks becoming...

Advice on fishing a rising river, bringing down weed, leaves etc

I prefer the upstream, rod low option with quite a big bow in my line. Three years ago I took Graham Elliot on a the upper Trent with lots of weed coming down. We both fished rods low with a bow in the line. Whilst the guy who came to fish near us was getting wiped out every five minutes we were...

Not to bad fishing a completely new stretch of the Trent 3 visits for 8 fish including blank. One trip to the Wye for 8 fish. Nothing exceptional though best fish was my first from the Wye at 9 13. Low water levels are not helping now though and as I don't fish nights on the Trent or anywhere...

    Fish spotting glasses

I got my prescription varifocals from Specsavers two years ago. They were offering two pair of glasses for the price of one. Unfortunately it didn't include Polaroids. Cost me best part of £100. Problem I find is that the bank looks higher from the river than they are and steps down to the...

any help on winter flood fishing on river trent?

Andrew I've been fishing the Upper Trent for many years, they are certainly difficult to locate. Swim finding is not a problem, plenty of slacks eddies to at. What you have to remember is that on the upper river we may not have the quantity of fish but the quality is there. It's perseverance my...
