I have mixed feelings about its demise - When I rediscovered barbel fishing during the magical late nineties I regularly popped into Leslies on my way to and from work at the
FCO HQ at Hanslope Park and the nearby Great Ouse.
I spent a considerable amount of money over the first few years...
Hi - I'm working in Stoke-on-Trent next week - does anyone know if there is any decent barbel fishing in the vicinity? - otherwise I'll be stuck drinking and watching footie in the evenings...

They don't make the same model Derek - the replacements are leather and thus relatively heavy - and very expensive...!
I've got LOWA boots for the winter Mark - but require light and breathable for the summer months ...looking at the Berghaus Explorer...
Sorry for another recommendation request - I've just discovered that the EPO has thrown out my pair of Brasher boots due to the sole hanging off ( i.e easily fixed with Evostick) so a new purchase is required - any recommendations?

I sympathise with you Dave - as a Watfordian I know the Colne pretty well - and as an ex-Ouse regular I have seen my sport pretty much destroyed over the past five years - albeit aided and abetted by the EA 'Flood Protection' idiots. More worryingly I thought that whilst the more rural reaches...

Just to add that the day includes a presentation from Karen Twine of Hull University who, working with the EA, 'chipped' a number of barbel in the River Ouse and then monitored their movements over a number of years - fascinating stuff!
