    Travel rod?

I've used one of these for a few years . A bit pricey but highly recomended.

    Chris Yates Rod/Reel Collection

Back in the late 60's and 70's weren't screw in swing tips and quiver tips fairly new and all the rage? That would explain the tip rings from rods of that era.

    Chris Yates Rod/Reel Collection

On a visit to a CLA gamefair and accompanied by my fishing mad 5 year old we briefly met CY. My son had a long earnest chat about Gudgeon and I couldn't get a word in edgeways. Later in the day we listened to a presentation by Bob James. With Bob in full flow my son, full of confidence...

    Chris Yates Rod/Reel Collection

Hi Andrew... Sounds like its not just me then! I own and use all types of rods too but amongst them are a few special ones. Although I've tried to fight it I can't get away from the fact that for me blanking in the rain with a favourite rod is somehow better and on red letter days when I...

    Centrepin sizes 3.5" or 4.5"?

Reel dimensions make little difference to casting distance once you have got use to the reel. Although For me the smaller dimensions are lighter and feel more balanced on the rod, whilst a 4"+ diameter pin offers a noticably quicker (and far nicer) retrieve. Narrow drums again just feel...

    Ikonix centre pin reel

If anyone is is in the Kent or East Sussex area I'd be happy to help with the wallis casting. I usually start by getting people to cast just beyound the rod tip with a gentle smooth swing into a bucket. Then slowly move the target further away. By slowly adding the reel action to the swing...

    Triangular Landing Net Heads.....

Does anyone remember the balcombe fast nets. No spreader block as such. The arms slid up and down the handle and locked in place to form the triangle shape. The early ones were made of alloy. I've got a later 42" arm fibreglass one I've used for carp/pike for years. I've often thought a...

    Ikonix centre pin reel

I'd agree Everyone casts slightly differently and develops thier own style. I'm a confirmed swinger (as in a casting ). If it gets it out there its OK... Most important bit is to keep things smooth and unhurried.

    Ikonix centre pin reel

I've brought my 12 year old one. He's been practising in the garden as the fishing was rained off. After a bit of help he was starting to get the hang of Wallis casting a 1/2 oz bomb into a bucket . So after reading this got to thinking if anyone is new to pins in the Kent, East Sussex area...

    Ikonix centre pin reel

Line guards are useful when its windy but for me more often than not they get in the way. They don't help wallis casting or undoing overruns either . My pin's bearing were rough out of the box too. I'm not sure if it's better than anything else but I've always used 'Abu Rocket Oil'...

    Ikonix centre pin reel

I just recieved one of these reels from Dragon too with the same fast delivery... Speaking as someone with a weakness for pins they are excellent value. It would cost the average man in the street £10 + just for the bearings. A further plus not already mentioned is that the handles are...

Hexagraph barbel rod any one use them

I went down a similar route a few years ago. I picked up a cheap, tatty hexagraph salmon rod to convert. Its deffo do-able but I sold it on at the thinking stage to pay for something else..... To be honest I've never really had a problem with the wieght. Its only really a prob when you compare...

Hexagraph barbel rod any one use them

Just home from 3 days fishing in Christchurch. 2 days on the Royalty and one on the Troop. A couple of Troop Chub fell to the Hexagraph, a Royalty Pike took a liking to a cane stick but despite trying very hard the Barbel avoided both. Might try to lull them into a sense of security with a...

Hexagraph barbel rod any one use them

I've got a weakness for tackle I can't really afford or need so I've been using Hexagraphs for most of my fishing in the last few years- current rods are A 12ft 'Stalker' heavy float type rod A 11ft Avon type rod about 1.5 TC which manages everything from carp, barbel and light piking...

    Your first barbel

Just registered and saw this thread and thought an intro was in order. As an angler for nearly 40 years I caught my first barbel a few weeks ago on the Royalty -at dusk on a big lump of meat in the edge. To say I was pleased was an understatment. Boy don't they pull back. Managed to lose two...
