Had a look in this week's Angling Times. Mr. Ayling is pictured with a river Thame monster. Can't recall the exact weight but 16.08 or 10 I recall. Beats the current 16lb 2oz record.
A pretty outrageous capture considering Luke recent caught PB 16.02 fish on the Thames recently :eek...
I had four Mitchell Avorunner 3500 reels which I was pretty happy with but decided I should try some Shimanos and see what all the fuss was about.

Anyhow, the Shimanos are great for what I bought...
I was thinking of writing this thread but a post in the Thames thread persuaded me it was time to do it.
Anyhow, I have fished the Thames for the past few seasons which is not the most prolific of rivers for the species. Growing up fishing this river, we tended to fish later in the summer...
Obviously it mostly depends on the bait you are using but what size hook do you find yourself using the most?
Personally I carry pretty much everything from a size 1  down to a size 14 for barbel.
For all those weary of long trips to the Wye just to bank a barbel I can reveal a devastating rig for your local water.
Perfect on the Great Ouse, Upper Thames, Wensum and the like!
Become a thoroughly modern barbel angler and embrace the otter

Hi all,
Just started pre-baiting a swim on my local canal and was wondering what is the best pattern to use when pre-baiting?
The carp cruise up and down looking for food, quite often in the margins in the day with the boat traffic but to be honest then can be caught anywhere right across...
Hello all,
I was considering upgrading my reels and had a few Shimano queries.
1. What's your preference in regards to the handle and why?
Personally I have never tried a double handle and it strikes me they must be better balanced on the retrieve. However, are they cumbersome in use at...
Just went in to get something and saw these.
Features three superbright long life LEDs.
2 White LEDs, 1 red for emergencies
Fully adjustable head strap
Thought I should add one to the collection at £2.99 :)

Hi one and all,
Being the time is approaching soon, I have been giving some thoughts to my tactics. As last season I was doing late night sessions (and even earlier morning finishes) I found that before long in the wee hours I would be have a quick snooze, especially as bites don't come fast a...
Hello BFWers,
I have been toying with the idea of trying Power Pro for my mainline this season. The reduced drag (and corresponding lead size), increased casting distance and bite detection sensitivity look alluring.
Just been reading here about some of the pros and cons.
Anyone noticed...
Hello BFWers,
I just bought a sack of the Coppens Red Halibut Pellets (not to be confused with the Dynamite Baits Robin Red pellets).
Has anyone tried them?

Hi Andy,
Thanks for the explanatory post. I agree it is a real shame that the warning as to this vendor and his multiple eBay accounts has been removed. Most of us use eBay and it would be nice to know of those who have had real problems such as losing money from vendors.
Surely it could it...

Growing up in Maidenhead I caught my first barbel one night on the Thames about 28 years ago! I decided last season to return to my roots and see if I could catch another barbel or two after my extended hiatus.
It wasn't too long before I ran across the "Windsor Barbel Catchers" online. For...
Hello all,
I have enjoyed watching this one once or twice, fast forward to 21 mins for the vintage barbel action!

Hello one and all,
Yesterday I managed to break the top section of my ABU Emerald Specimen rod extracting myself from an overgrown swim under a willow tree with a carp in the landing net :(
So I am thinking of getting the correct tool for the job. Anyone have any recommendations for a carp...
