I hear rumours of the odd one coming out but nothing concrete. I used to see them spawning on the gravel but its only chub ow and has been for a few years. i suspect the odd one remains but for me its not worth fishing for them any more on the river. The chub fishing remains good though...
I fish the Cherwell at Water Eaton. The local farmer believes it is the coffee plant that colours the water.
There used to be a healthy population of Barbel but since the 2007 floods they have disappeared. Plenty of chub though and to good sizes.
It is still a lovely river to fish.

Another vote for Browns in Leighton Buzzard. I gave up on Leslies a few years ago when as the only customer at the desk they ignored me to take call after call on the phone. And I had a couple of Hundreds quids worth of stuff to buy. I left the stuff on the counter and went mail order elsewhere...
