There are some cracking barbel on the Nene it did one of 17lb the week before the season ended along with a 13-3. 14-2 & 9+ to the same angler see angling times April 2nd issue.
Tactics are keep light keep on the move it's best suited to roving so leave your big river set ups at home.
Don't...
i presume you have been fishing marford farm ?. peterborough & district angling association have three day ticket barbel waters on the nene at castor, alwalton and orton staunch. The average size at castor & alwalton is 10lb with specimens upto 16lb plus and orton they run up to 8-9lb and...
ummm i`m always a bit sceptical of carp anglers cliams for other fish weights having seen known fish claimed at very different weight to its last catch when caught within a few days.
As is normal at this time of the season rumours of a new UK barbel record surface this time its the Thames { a river that should do it } and 21lb 10oz BUT there seems to be a publicty blackout again.
rumours are just that until they are backed up with hard proof but aye its a great ploy to get...
Barbless only for me and personally i wish my club would introduce a barbless only rule.
the best way to test the damage barbed hooks do is to push one right through the skin on your finger and they try pulling it out.
then do the same with a barbless.
i bought a bag of the new sticky baits manilla boilies which are sweet but in three sessions on them i never even had a bite so i went back to good old halibut pellets the next session and had 4 barbel including may first double of the season.
thats the end of my sweet boilie exercise.
i bailiff a popular stretch of the nene and we get a few carpers who are fed up and want to try for barbel but many cant seem to leave the carp head at home and come down over gunned tackle wise and fill swims in then wonder why they cant catch.
we are lucky we have a strict no night fishing...
The peterbough & district AA day ticket barbel sections { 3 different } are best suited to roving tactics and some sections can get busy at times especially early season.
none are bag up venues and will require a fair bit of time being put in to get to know the water and find the best specimens...
There`s been no increase in the current two rod licence for several years so expect to pay £30 for a two rod licence and £45-50 for a 3 rod.
so those of us who only fish one rod will be paying for the three rod via the £3 increase.
Very bad news nothing is safe not even in SAFE parking spots. the police cuts seem to have made them not bothered about rural crimes and angling crimes like this are lucky to even get a response.
very sad to see it go but the " product placement " was nowhere near as bad as most of the other monthly`s and its was`nt full of pole fishing or carp.
they have to raise income from adverts etc but that`s just the way things are nowadays but it was a hard job to find it on the shelves in the...
" The Nene is a good river but is a sluggish navigable waterway with small pockets of Barbel in obvious locations many of which have been harvested by people taking the fish for food ".
dont know where you`ve heard this but its complete cr*p, all the sections controlled by P&DAA are some of the...
well said graham elliott and that`s what happens when i phone in or get a call.
the trouble is there are to many " armchair bailiffs " who say a lot but do nothing, why do`s mark berry think bailiffs are banned from their own club banks during the close season ? i still walk the banks everyday...
guy go and take a look at some of the small rivers and see the effects that letting people on them would do during spawning, as i said in my post self control go`s out the window when they spot fish as those who just want an easy catch will sit there all day.
the call for it to be scrapped...
the closed season should be kept at all cost but if anything it should be moved back a month.
as for poachers having free range from march till june then clubs should get more bailiffs on the bank even if someone can only do a few hours a week it all helps.
if there`s 10 anglers fishing on the...
i witnessed a few barbel spawning in late april during the warm spell but it was only a few then it stopped once the temps dropped. there`s been the odd bit since but still not the amount of fish over the gravels to complete the majority of this years spawning.
it will go over as everyone says...
i can see what your saying neil but i cant be rooted to the same spot all day as i feel like i miss out on things and i like a variety. being a chub angler mostly in the winter i`m used to moving about a lot, normally its about every 20 mins but about an hour when barbel fishing.
on my normal...
i dont as a matter of fact russell but neither do i own a bivvie, buzzers and a barrow.
if you like to camp in a swim that`s fine but its not my way of fishing, i`ve a day booked on the wye next season and will i camped in a swim ? will i b***er i want to make the most of it and that means...
why would anyone want to reserve a swim on a river ?, the way to get the best from a river is to keep on the move unless you are the sort who go " carbaling ". { not real barbel fishing in my book }
i see anglers who only fish the same couple of swims and never anywhere else, whats the point...
