I do a fair bit of this style of angling....I use circle hooks in quite big sizes and have yet to buy a proper weight....AAA shot pinched on loosely works well:)

Jeff, I have the lower river in town here in Tewkesbury so I'm a bit spoilt really....the river looks really appealing for Zander this morning, especially with a few feet of warm extra on....roll on the 16th:)
IMO....if the swim/location is properly disguised then not an issue....
....in this instance, there is not enough season left for the "circus" to get the big top up anyway?

I have used a standard Solar pod in the past whilst Piking on landing stages and concrete urban swims....with a variety of homemade drop offs and shop bought too....I have never experienced any problems with drop offs not falling back or dropping off when a take occurs;) Old school...
