A little light reading for the closed season...

If i recall properly they only surveyed fish in the summer because that was the "growth" period and that also there wasn't many anglers who fish during the winter period.

A little light reading for the closed season...

Have skimmed the report and when I have a week to spare will read it thoroughly! Some interesting concepts and findings but also some areas of concern particularly with regards to the same strains of stocked fish. The diet composition of fishmeal reliance is not really suprising, given that...

    Deep Hooked Barbel

It is possible that the hook point was partially covered by the bait (maggot turned over etc) when the barbel took the bait. Once in the stomach the hook is not coming out. Never had a deep hooked barbel and I normally fish long hook links with a bait runner and a semi bolt rig that lets the...

    Hooklength Material

As Jon knows, i use that rig as he recommended it, however I play around with the fluro breaking strain a little and also increase the length of braid from 2" to 4 or 5" sometimes, particually if flow is slow.

using a lead clip (safely)-minimum weight for effective self-hooking

Thats excellent, the only thing I would add is super sharp hooks (as mentioned earlier by David) so that the fish gets pricked easier then bolts therefore hooking itself properly.

I have the Helikon and very happy with it - be careful of sizes, they come very big. I have xl in everything but only large in Helikon.

    Hooks for boilie fishing

The size of hook is dependent of many different factors so will change regular from a 12 to a 6 probably. Sure that some of the meat men use larger than that.

    Pike

Dave, I never knew Keith but terrible news for his friends. Deep hooked fish are a problem, always helps if 2 anglers are there to get hooks out, on your own its a bit of a struggle sometimes. Not tried ground baiting on the lochs but that is something in the pipeline for next winter.Hope u...
