They might be smaller John, but they won't be better. I've been using the "Samsons" for 7 years and I wouldn't change them. Spot on for build, accuracy and battery longevity.

Agree with this, but don't worry so much about cover if it's not there, look for man-made features too. Inlets, bridges, locks, moored boats and so on. Canal carp will give away their presence with bubbling and rootings too. They are very nomadic indeed, but they won't be bait or rig-shy...

Nope, many on here use methods that incorporate bite alarms to enhance their chosen set-up. They do not necessarily use "carp gear" but may use carp-rigs. They may well catch as many (if not more) barbel as the more "traditional" angler and his methods & gear. They may well thoroughly...

I didn't mention jealousy, they are simply denying part of their angling heritage because it came from dedicated, thinking, carp anglers, which they mistakenly confuse with the modern-day carpers they see on the bank. Which is hardly elitist. It's sad. :o People want to moan about camo...

You are, of course, correct Craig. Barbel are the poor angler's carp in that respect, but don't expect the wannabe Luddites to acknowledge their angling hand-me-downs. I'd make the buggers all fish free-lined worm for a season. Then we'd see who's "got it" and who hasn't. :rolleyes:
