Oily Pellets
Interesting one this, its no surprise that most of the forward thinking carp commercials are very careful with the type of pellets allowed - most will not allow "trout" pellets in any shape or form and as for the even oilier Halibuts that we all use - not a chance. Some will say...
Hi Howard, nice post as usual BUT the gathered data would only be of any use to a sensible debate if it was catch data gathered on a river which had NO close season, as that's the only way we could compare it with what we have today.
On that basis, it's never going to...
This is the absurdity of the whole situation - why theres even a branch of our sport which is based solely on fishing for a species with only one thing ie spawning, on its mind, it brings in many millions of pounds though and nobody ever raises any objections about it - its called Salmon...
Hi Steve,
if I thought there was any chance you could remove the river close season I would do everything in my power to see it happen - you may have noticed, its something I feel very strongly about
But your missing the point here - the "agreement" you refer to was put in place...
Guys,
I've said enough on this subject but this is my final comment, and this is only because the gist of some posts seems to suggest that there could be a point to this debate.
The river close season can never be lifted - we can debate it till we are blue in the face, we can vote on polls...
Hi Eddie, its already a Government decision, but when the angling powers that be, approached the Government 20 odd years ago they, along with the EA (or whatever it was called at the time) and lots of "conservation bodies" (eg RSPB etc) agreed that the close season on rivers could only be lifted...
Rubbish post Julian:) if you take the time to read Lee's very informative posts you'll realise how the Stillwater close season was completely lifted across the whole country......
Evening Lee,
Thanks for you're statistics most interesting as usual........
A couple of things, I didn't for one minute infer that increased Salmon runs meant an overall increase in Salmon anglers. It does mean though that all those privately owned beats of the Wye in particular, will and...
Mr Peacock how can it have been hypocrisy when it was scientifically proved to be of no detriment - this was done by conducting scientific research on stillwaters that had never had a UK close season and there were lots of them in certain counties eg Cornwall or Lincolnshire..........
Because...
Very interesting Lee - so because there is/was no proof that the the close season is either a negative or positive thing (mainly because it's scientifically impossible to understand either way!) the representatives of ALL of us ie yourself and the rest of the river angling hierarchy, who by your...
At a time when most would agree that lots of our rivers are in a worse state than any of us can remember, we the very people that generally care the most, walk away for 3 months and allow open season for every sort of 2/4 legged or feathered predator known - you couldn't make it up...
Best session by far was back in July, in one afternoon had 10 fish two of which were over 13lb plus one other double, two big 9's and the rest were all between 6/9lb - and the best bit was they were all on the float........now that's proper fishing! Steve
Oh dear Wayne..... you seem to have advanced from someone who stands behind a counter selling reels to a "reel" design engineer!
As a current (if that makes any difference!) automotive design engineer the problem, as has already been pointed out, is one of either design or parts quality - as...
Unbelievable, I did'nt realise it was a war..........
I fish a stretch of the Middle Trent with a similar snag peg on a weir run-off, and we get the same old faces fishing into or on top of it, God knows how many fish die each season as a result of being tethered and the more that are lost the...
