Default lead wire size ?

hoping to do some rolling meat fishing on my annual trip to the severn ,have read about wrapping lead wire around a big hook as one way ,but what width of wire should I get ,theres some on ebay ,what size and particular hooks should I use as well ? any help on this style of fishing would be most helpful.

17Swg is about right if my memory serves me correctly. In any case, lead wire is easily stretched to get it to your desired thickness if it's too thick.
