Barbel mission!

I'm currently on a mission to catch my first barbel but I'm not having much luck at the mo. Fished a venue near me in Stockport using various methods and baits quite a few times but so far only a big chub. Can any one recommend somewhere in the Manchester/Stockport area please so I can finally accomplish my mission?
 
The Dane is a good venue to learn barbel fishing. Then progress to the Ribble.

Or travel down to The Severn, middle reaches. Are you in any local clubs?
 
The Goyt seems to be the closest to me from the recommended list so I think I'll find a spot along there somewhere. Cheers fellas. Tight lines, wet nets & bent rods!
