River Tame & Goyt?

This one's for anyone in the Manchester or Stockport area really.
Been fishing the river Tame in Stockport for a wee while now (below the wier) but can't help wondering why there are, according to some, few or no fish above the wier! Surely this is b#####ks?
Also, gonna get myself a Stockport fed this year and give the Goyt a bash for barbel, can anyone recommend any good spots? And are there pike in either of these two rivers?
Any advice would be a great help.
Tight lines.

There are no barbel above the tame weir as they cannot navigate it, there has been a recent stocking of barbel above weir 500 i believe but not sure where, there are plenty of other fish though.

Pike are present in both rivers although not witnessed any being caught in the goyt since the mid 90s.
