First post, and straight away a question!

Good afternoon, All,

Hopefully, this is the right place for my question, if not, mods please feel free to move it!

Myself and my fishing partner of more years and waters than any mere mortal would care to remember have decided that this is the year that we visit the Wye. I've mailed several hotels that advertise fishing along the Wye, but as soon as I mention disabled pensioners the virtual conversation achieves what can only be described as a 'pregnant pause'!

Do any of you good people know of any sections of the Wye suitable for an old geezer on crutches, preferably connected to a decent B and B or hotel. We're not that concerned about the economy of the fishing or the accommodation, when you're on first name terms with the skinny bloke with the black robes and a scythe, cost tends to pale into insignificance!

We are both experienced in all disciplines involved in fishing, so difficult waters are just as welcome as any other, the main issue is the access!

All and any assistance gratefully received!

Bob

Hi Bob,
I do know of one DT fishery that has reasonable access for £7 per rod, it is Bisopswood belowv Ross. Not sure about accommodation but can investigate.
I would be delighted to offer any help I can, including escorting you to the fishery, and so on.
Its a bit daunting breaking new ground, I should know, plus a I get to fish too:D
Let me know if I can help
Neil

Hi, Neil,

Thanks for the prompt reply.

I'll Investigate your suggestion and get back to you. Your offer of escort duty, are you a guide?

Cheers,

Bob

No a cub scout.

Good God no  What I meant would be something along the lines of fetching and carrying to get you in a peg etc:)
Another option would be Caradoc on the Wye and Usk ticket, you can drive right to the peg, and there are a couple of easy access swims. But £40 a head is not cheap.

Bob, Neil, Inn on the Wye is a minute away from the day ticket stretch at Bishopwoods and is a nice place and fairly cheap, Ive stopped there before whilst fishing the wye. Day tickets are available just down the road from a shop/garage on the right.

dont forget paul its serves a good breakfast an pork pies and a nice cup of tea

Unless its changed big time, i reckon Bishopswood would be a nightmare for access. Farmers field to cross and high banks ?

Oh, don't like the sound of that. Extra appendages I might have, bionic I'm not!

Completely OT, but yesterday, before being allowed to consult the hive mind, I was offered a choice, charity donation or buy a bit of kit. I'd been promising myself a bucket thing to take all the odds and sods that accumulate, so I opted for the bit of kit option.

That was at approx 16:30 yesterday ( Friday)

Today at 07:15, it arrived.

I'm amazed, thank you very much for the fantastic service guys, I've just made the donation as well!

It's changed hand in the last year, the mother and daughter have gone, but hopefully the bacon rolls have not.

Morning Bob,
Well at least the buckets sorted  On the subject of access, I appreciate most of the Wye has steep banks so getting down might be a problem, of course when the is 8 foot on it's less of a problem.:) Bishopswood does have a couple of more user friendly pegs that with some help you might be OK with. Perhaps someone else might be able to help with disabled swims, location.

What I do know is that the EA waters at Uckinghall on the Severn, has some brilliant wooden stages that are ideal, very substantial with a big platform and big steps, not the normal club pallet type jobs. Some barbel show up very occasionally but it would be a great venue for Bream and silvers on a medium feeder set up. Plus there is a pond adjacent to the river that is Birmingham AA, DT can be had for here.

Of course the river is a 'free' stretch.

How nice it is to see guys on here offering another with mobility problems help to get on the bank. Such a refreshing change from the bickering and one upmanship on Facebook.

Bob try phoning Woodys Tackle in Hereford , I would think he would be able to help you in your quest .Or you could try Wye Angling another tackle shop that may be able to help .

Bearing in mind that this is the first time I've stuck my head above the parapet and actually signed up instead of just lurking on here, I can't tell you how amazed I am with the response, on other fishing forums I've either been abused or ignored. It's immensely gratifying to sign up here and find such a helpful bunch of guys.

I'm not blowing smoke up any assorted orific's, I really am very happy that I'm here!

Cheers, Guys!

Bob.
If you have a 4x4 I can help you.

Good banks once down the initial hill.

Also suggest Castle Lodge Hotel on the wilton roundabout as a super place to stay.

Also the stretch at Hoarwithy. ..Stans...can be driven along bankside for a mile with some easy access swims.
