Painting quiver tips

Terry Banks

Senior Member
Last winter I broke the quiver carrier section on my Grauvell specialist, so.............. Ill be shortly replacing the rod with a new one in time for some winter Roach fishing :)

Only thing is about the rod I'm not so keen on, is the quiver colouring and would much prefer a bright luminous solid colour. Anyway............had a bit of a browse and found in the BFW archives a company called 'Glowtec' that sells what I think I am looking for !!!!

http://www.glowtec.co.uk/glowshop-cart-Paints.htm

There was some brief discussion on using the paint but nothing conclusive ?

What I am asking is.........has anyone used this before ? is it any good ? and how do you use it ?

Any help much appreciated :)

Thanks

Having experimented over the years then an acrylic paint is what you need. Use white as a basecoat and then fluorescent paint and if you want to keep it really clean then a coat or two of clear.

I've tried the powders and glow paints but this leaves you with a granular rough feel to the surface and you need quite a few coats to get a decent result. Choose your colour carefully as some colours have relatively short glow times. Green is the longest, with red the shortest.

No doubt other people will suggest various other methods, tape, tippex etc.

Piccy of custom Harrison with plug in quiver tips, various bright colours, various test curves, glass and carbon.
Try to avoid putting too much paint on and use a flexible type as some paints can start to craze and fall off after a time. Rub down the tip before you paint to get a decent key.

The paint is essentially their glow powder encapsulated in varnish, it dries to a fine sandpaper like finish so wouldn't leave a very cosmetic appealing finish.

Edit - Like what Bob said :)

You can buy the Drennan night glow quiver tips that go on the series 7 specialist rods for between £12 and £14 - obviously depends on the rod but worth a thought and you could always contact a supplier for dimensions to see if they'll fit your rod. If not it'll have to be a DIY job, those tips of Bob's do look bright - the middle one looks very nice. :)

Thanks for taking the time to reply lads :)

Ive still got the broken quiver carrier section, so will take that to local shop to see if the drennan ones fit (or can make them)

Maybe I should have been more specific in my original post  Ill try and be a bit more clear................. Most of my roach fishing is done wandering using the float and generally starting at dawn, during that time I will try and decide where I think my best chance of a good fish will come from come dusk, I will then spend the last couple of hrs of daylight fishing/building the swim until I can't see the float any more. Only then I will use the feeder rod (balanced upstream) until I think the chance has gone.

So.......... its the luminous factor that Im looking for, mainly because me and Isotopes/starlight adaptors don't get on !!!! what got me thinking is on the linked website there is some luminous adhesive paper shapes, which by coincidence my little girl has on her bedroom wall and they do really light up in the dark  So that got me thinking about using the paint, but as has been mentioned about the rough finish, I don't think Ill be going down that route.

Hopefully the drennan ones will fit, if not..........?

Answers on a postcard!!!!!!!! :D

Thanks again :)

Or "knobbers" may be good if you want to use adapters such as the Enterprise jobs:
