Watching and listening to this guy -
![]() Milton Jones Comedian, writer and actor, whose stand-up is full of surrealism, nonsense and sharp wit. He has performed regularly for Radio 4 and his three series of 'The Very World Of Milton Jones' have been nominated for the British Comedy Award and won a Sony Radio Award. He was the winner of the Perrier Best Newcomer Award in 1996, and was nominated for the main prize in 1997. He received the Time Out 'Best Comedy Performer' prize in 2002. - at the Tabard pub in West London last night. Brilliant. If he does a gig anywhere near you, go and see him - you'll be in tears. |

The Chairman on Sunday
Now, show me a "Four Weddings and a Floppy-Haired, Minor-Public School, deeply affected, eff-you proles, Notting Hill Funeral", Curtis Chappie effort normally, and I would be contacting my - our - Head Keeper, Kevin, to get out with his longbow and any other AK47-type accessories deemed necessary, instanta... However, the awfully nice (probably from Surrey, or Hampstead) chap turned out quite a good Doctor Who last night - "Vincent and The Doctor". Almost brought a tear to me ol' eye as I tortured a chalkstream flyfisher. Almost. As ever, B.B. (The Beauchamps - Winsome But Actually Really Mean B'stards, since 1066") Last edited by Paul Boote; 06-06-2010 at 10:39 PM. |

The Chairman on Tuesday
At (in head-shaking horror if I had, which, thankfully, I haven't), at the National Geographic's new series, "Hooked: Monster Fishing". http://natgeotv.com/uk/hooked-monster-fishing/about Quite enough monsters about, on- and off-river, here and abroad, already, thank you. As ever, B.B. ("The Beauchamps - True Monsters Since 1066") PS - This review of the first offering in the Gurnard newspaper today: "From fighting big cats to fighting big catfish. "Noodling," to be precise, a special kind of angling I had never heard of until seeing Hooked: Monster Fishing (National Geographic). In a way, it is similar to what went on with the tigers in the Roman empire, as noodlers wear very little protection and do battle with mighty beasts. They are the redneck gladiators of muddy American rivers. The only difference is that these dudes choose to do it." Noodling works like this. The noodler wades about in the river, sticking his hands into underwater holes. If there's a catfish in there, it will hopefully bite the noodler (that's what the noodler wants, strangely: they wear their wounds with pride). And then he'll grab the fish and try to wrestle it out of the water. If it's a big one, his mates will all pile in and help. So it's basically fishing, but without using a rod, line or hook. And using your hand as bait. Bloody idiots. Last edited by Paul Boote; 15-06-2010 at 12:48 PM. |

The first episode (second is screened on Sunday night) of Sherlock, an updated version of the Holmes-Watson detective team written and created by the Moffat-Gatiss Dr Who team. Some laugh-out-loud moments in the first of what might prove to be quite a series -

Quote:
As a dyed-in-the-wool Sherlock Holmes (Sir Arthur stylee) fan it made me cringe. The only bloke who got close was Jeremy Brett. But then again, as a Fleming fan I always thought all the Bond flicks were a waste of time. When will someone film the books as written, using the same period, cars etc. - So what do I know!
