    Do fish feel pain?

Fish cannot feel pain say scientists - Telegraph Published today. I think the problem lies in the fact that we (humans) cannot put ourselves in the place of another Class of animal without anthropomorphising. Which leads to a fundamentally flawed interpretation. I've seen the results of...

    Good chub rod

This is the rod(s) I use for 95% of my chubbing (and barbel), but then I'm using the 1.75 avon tops and 2 or 3oz leads. ;) I haven't used the quiver tip section in years. You need more than just the tip to give and I found the 1.5 top section too stiff and missed too many bites. For...

    Best lightweight digital scales?

David, There are 3 settings on the Samsons. Kilos, Lbs/Ozs, Lbs in decimal. Sounds like some people haven't read the manual? :o

    Best lightweight digital scales?

They might be smaller John, but they won't be better. I've been using the "Samsons" for 7 years and I wouldn't change them. Spot on for build, accuracy and battery longevity.

    whats your pb barbel???

Somewhere closer to our homes, I think. I can't afford a third mortagage for the petrol! Thanks Den. At least you know how hard it is there. 2 runs, 2 "wild" carp in 25 sessions. I'm on a roll. ;)

    whats your pb barbel???

That Elliot bloke's rubbish. Last season he insisted I spend a weekend on the Wye for nothing, he supplied and cooked all the food, outfished me by a zillion to one, made me photograph all of his double figure barbel and gave me the experience of fishing a river with methods completely alien...

    Canal Carp

Agree with this, but don't worry so much about cover if it's not there, look for man-made features too. Inlets, bridges, locks, moored boats and so on. Canal carp will give away their presence with bubbling and rootings too. They are very nomadic indeed, but they won't be bait or rig-shy...

For those who use bite alarms

The fresh cuppa is what makes my sessions so enjoyable, Neil. :) If you make the effort to be on fish in the first place, you shouldn't have to move. And that goes for all species. ;)

For those who use bite alarms

Nope, many on here use methods that incorporate bite alarms to enhance their chosen set-up. They do not necessarily use "carp gear" but may use carp-rigs. They may well catch as many (if not more) barbel as the more "traditional" angler and his methods & gear. They may well thoroughly...

    Help Needed.

As the old saying goes, "you can lead a horse to water, but you can't make him drink". Craig, along with all the boilies and the hair rig, don't forget the ubiquitous Pellet in all its forms, saftey bolt-rigs, coated braid, silicon sleeving/tubing, hook patterns, tungsten putty, fluoro line...

There you go, perfectly cammo'd torso against the skyline. Day or night, disruptive pattern. With a nice sliver cloud on top. :D Is that a carbarpable?

    Help Needed.

I didn't mention jealousy, they are simply denying part of their angling heritage because it came from dedicated, thinking, carp anglers, which they mistakenly confuse with the modern-day carpers they see on the bank. Which is hardly elitist. It's sad. :o People want to moan about camo...
