Having a clearout and have a nice closed face Abu 501 surplus to requirements.
It was serviced today, and is in excellent working order.
It has been setup correctly i.e. with handle facing down the spool is at the lowest point giving smoother line release and minimising chance of line being caught behind the spool.
Gears/bell/housing/pick-up etc all sound and a testament to the days when things were made properly.
Cosmetically it is in good condition, just a few small age related marks.
I have removed the anti-reverse pawl (i have 3 other 500 series reels and prefer to backwind rather than use the slightly iffy drag system!) but will supply the pawl in case the new owner wants to put it back.
Great little reel to use when trotting for grayling/roach/chub etc.
