Tried a big lump of garlic Spam on the Loddon last night after reading this thread......

About 12in of 12lb Korda IQ2 to a size 6 wide gape on a running ledger

The rig was out for about 10 minutes when the rod wrapped round......

A bloody eel! (better than the previous 6 blanks though )

The first time I used half a tin of meat I caught a tiny eel.

from what your maude said you will only need a small hook for your meat! use the rig we use its simple like yourself matey!

1/3 tin of spam, pull long shank size 2 hook through with a boillie stringer needle and turn hook 45 degrees. No need to use a stop of any kind, as you want the hook to pull through (spam is quite tough anyway).

Free running simple rig (nylon all the way) with a bomb.

Point rod at meat and use a long drop bobbin (mine is home made from large hairgrip and polystyrene ball, with isotope glued in).

Like a lot have already said Gaz, no need for fancy rigs when fishing big meat, big hook tied to line, thats all you need

don`t discount good old meatballs straight on a size 4 caught loads on that set up.
