Boot sale rod

Visited my local boot sale this morning and found a TFG River and Pit 12ft, 1.5 Avon rod. It looked as it hasn't been used a lot going by the Cork handle. Anyway after knocking the seller down from £20 to £12 i think ive got a bargain. Got home stuck a reel and line on it. It has a typical "Avon" action with what seems a good lot power on the lower blank." Tested with thanks to my son acting as a fish"

What i need to know having never used a rod with a strength as low as 1.5lb. What would be the max line strength and the max casting weight i can safely chuck.

Ian, I used to have one of these rods and for 12 quid you've done good. I would recommend 8-10lb BS line and leads >2oz. Hope you Christian it soon.

Ha, Ha. I just used my charm with the wife 22 years ago.

Tested the rod loaded with 8lb line through on one of my clubs still waters. The first time ive used a still water since last season. Just can't get the calling of the river out of my head. I digress, Using meat pellets topped with sweet corn. Caught 5 Common Carp weighing 3.5lb up to 9.10lb and 2 nice looking Bream 2.3lb and 4.6lb. The rod felt to have a better overall action than my Fox duo specialist 1.75/2.25lb Barbel rod and just as strong in the butt section with a nice tip action. Think this will be a keeper, just have to try it out on the river next week.
The Carp were acting strange for this time of year, where they were jumping out of the water just like in spawning. I would have thought it was way too early and the temperature was too cold. I have no idea why they were doing this and have only seen this in the spawning season which is around the beginning of July in this water . I would like to point out there are no predatory fish in the pond. Answers on a postcard please.

Possibly shaking off lice that have attached to them when lying dormant on the bottom in the cooler temperatures?
I have witnessed it myself on commercials in winter.
