Hi guys,

Does any one have these rods? I have just bought a pair from angling direct as the infinitys are discontinued. I get them on saturday and cant wait to use them. I fish the ribble with a pair of diawa power mesh 2.75 i find them to heavy for normal summer conditions, and cant feel the chub on them when i hook them.

Cheers Lee

I’ve got a pair of the heaviest ones for tidal Trent work. The blank is just so impressive. Power is unreal
I’ve not actually caught a fish on mine but these thing launch lead for a laugh. Slimmer in the tip than my 1.75 torrixs yet it’s a 2.75 rod. Very impressed with the technology around them.
I actually played with both a basis and a infinity in angling direct when I was thinking about buying
Hands down the basia was my favorite of the two. Loads more power and nicer blank action but I must say let down by the tip ring. Daiwa in their wisdom decided there top of the range barbel rods should get an old fashioned tip ring with a bridge across the top..... I’ll be changing them for anti fraps when I get chance
The infinity has an anti Frap tip ring which is odd why the basia doesn’t.

Yes i agree that is why i wanted the infinitys. I have had a pair of the infinitys 6 years ago i loved them. But angling direct they only had the basias as the infinitys are discontinued. I dont like the tip ring on the basia. I will be changing that also. Cant wait to use them on the ribble.

It made perfect sense to discontinue one of those products as what’s the point in having 2 top end barbel rods covering the same TC’s.
the intermediate guides are perfectly fine. Suitable sizes, strong and very light. It’s the tip ring that lets it down drastically.
they did the same on the free spirits in standard build form. using the S lite SIC’s. Not bad rings but the tip ring was just awful. I had mine replaced with Fuji K’s and they are a lot nicer.
you’ll be happy with the basias mind. Very very clever blank indeed. Christ knows how they have managed to get that power out of something that’s no thicker than a typical pellet waggler rod.
pics show on the right basia 2.75 barbel flood rod.
on the left fox duo lite specialist float rod.
tip diameter is pretty much identical yet the power Difference couldn’t be any further apart

Thanks for the replys lads. Are the rings on the basias not top end then? Should be for the price of them.

Yeah they are a nice guide.
made by sea guides which I believe are very popular in the states.
I personally have no complaints with the guides other than the tip.

Not just external diameter but wall thickness and material type will have a marked effect.

I have often heard of an anti frap tip ring but I have no idea what it is.

Help me out please

It’s where the two reinforcement strips on the guide curve round and meet the tube flush rather than bridging over it or not being there at all. The line can then only follow the curve and be released off the ring rather than getting caught on it.

Normal.

The basias don’t have them as standard. Not a big deal the rest of the rings are excellent quality and a lot of rods don’t use antifrap yet they work fine. Dead easy and cheap to change if wanted anyway. The rod blank itself more than makes up for it. Unbelievably awesome blanks and the heavy one is a proper great lead lobber.

I gave e the 1.75 Basia a good going over last week, catching a good 10 Barbel from the tidal trent. I don't really go over 3 oz with these, fishing the inside line with a 40gm feeder mostly. At a little over 8oz it never felt under gunned at all, but never over gunned too. I used in the spring for tench fishing too, moving on my old Infinity 1.75s. Its not as mid to through action as the infinity, more tippy, until the butt kicks in. Rings wise I generally go for k series guides on all my rods and thought this a miss by Daiwa. However have just had the tip tops done to a Kigan anti frap guides. The tangles have stopped. The factory rings are smooth as silk and very light. More than happy with the rods.

Good Afternoon ladies and gents. I’m new to the forum and wondered if anybody had anything further to add about the Daiwa Basia X45 Barbel in 1.75. Apologies for dragging up an old thread. Thought I’d be best off starting here first.
