I bought the Shimano X-Aero 4000FA after a discussion with a Shimano rep he reassured me due to the spool size and over all design it was more than a match for any 5000 size reel they made. He was wrong
I've bought Fox Eos 7000 reels in the end cheap and the right size hopefully Fox have sorted their gearing issues of the past because there perfect for my kind of fishing.
X aero 4000FA - best reel I've ever had, with a drag that purrs and not snatchy like all shimmy baitrunners
I found fishing decent sized feeders on bigger rivers that the cranking ability felt compromised. I like a reel for all occasions and because I felt it struggled reeling in feeders it didn't quite feel tight and robust to me. I know I could get 2 sets but that 5000 size is perfect for me.
Is it just me I didn't like the 5000xtea and stupidly sold a mint used once one in box for £50 a couple of years ago before I realised what it was worth (and then the chap tried to knock me down). It was to heavy for me just felt like it unbalanced my rod. Was super smooth though.
